About Global Maritime Club
The Global Maritime Club is a private membership club that brings together leading maritime executives from around the world. Senior leaders from shipowners, ship operators, and ship management companies make up the membership. Global Maritime Club is an exclusive platform for connecting with other high-profile members through strategic networking opportunities and closed-door leadership roundtables, allowing members to meet, discuss business, and build new business partnerships.
The objective was to create a high-end, exclusive platform for senior maritime industry leaders to network with other high-profile members. An elite members only club.
For the Seatrade portfolio, I was entrusted with developing a high-end brand. The goal was to build a high-end, exclusive networking platform for senior maritime industry professionals to meet other high-profile members.
An elite members only club.
I looked at high-end fashion, sports, and fine dining brands after completing comprehensive research from marketing trend studies on high-end design and obtained an insight of what was trending on the internet.
I was then tasked with recreating that feeling for The Global Maritime Club. I started by sketching some logos and layout concepts. I began by giving a definition of the term high-end: adjective. High-end products, particularly electronic products, are among the most expensive.
I also came up with a few brief statements to help me stay on track with the high-end vision.
Rarity: Unlike mass-market companies, the company has to limit manufacturing and avoid disclosing its (high) sales figures. The Global Maritime club is difficult to come by and is not available at all times or in all locations.
Aesthetic appeal: The Global Maritime club has the demeanour of a sophisticated and vain gentleman who would never leave the house in anything less than impeccable taste. The brand evokes a world of beauty and elegance whenever and wherever it is seen.
Value: The Global Maritime club sells products that are among the most expensive in their respective categories.
Exceptional and exquisite: The Global Maritime club has its own thinking and style, and its products provide a “kick” and a “surprise” by delivering the “anticipated unexpected.”
Excellence: The Global Maritime club delivers long-lasting top-of-the-line products that will not be discarded even after extensive use or a flaw, but will instead be fixed and often increase in value over time.
Significance: The Global Maritime club represents “the best from the best for the best”; its charm permeates the space, and regardless of whether it is overt or subtle, it is bloated with pride on the inside.
I also conducted extensive research in the maritime sector, including marketing reports, questionnaires, and ad hoc surveys, which allowed me to ask the audience what they considered to be high-end and worthy of joining a club for. We discovered that it needed to feel exclusive, one-of-a-kind, difficult to achieve but not impossible. I have expressed the need for a screening process to join the club.
I also keep an eye on current events in design, the industry, and the world in general. I realised that gold, grey, and navy would best match the high-end environment, that still portrayed a male-dominated aura.
The gold and grey was picked as I had found that these colour pairings gave the designs a high-end masculine feel, the navy was chosen because it is an elegant and serious colour, and it evokes serious things like tradition, solidity and strength as well as being visibly nautical.
After deciding on a design, I spent time looking for appropriate photos and graphics to complement what had been created.
